Ainsley loves playing with the Wiimote. She also seems to enjoy watching her mommy play lots of Dr. Mario on the Wii. This is all well and good until Ainsley starts pressing the Home button on the Wii, ending Angela’s WiFi two-player game reign-of-terror to a premature end.

Also, I should point out that she started playing with the Wiimote after her uncle Dave got her a small version of it (which was actually a Pez-like candy dispenser). She unfortunately figured out that it wasn’t the same as mommy and daddy’s and kept grabbing for ours.

I think we’ve now reached the stage where we just need to take the batteries out of one and let her just keep playing with that one.

Ainsley’s always been a smiley, playful baby. However, in the past few weeks, she’s been particularly curious and playful. She loves to grab for things (anything that isn’t nailed or glued down, actually) and inspect it. She’s getting to finally play with some toys that were given to her some time ago (many before she was even born, actually). This morning, Angela got a couple more out of her toy chest for her to learn with. Here, she’s finding the different shapes inside the toy jar, pulling them out one at a time, and carefully inspecting each.

Here she’s playing with her ring stack toy. As with the bucket, she didn’t figure out intended method of play (placing the rings over the posts or putting the shapes in the proper holes on the jar). Instead, she just explored and played with the shapes and rings as she saw fit. I think inventing her own form of play, however simple, is just as important as figuring out the "rules" of each toy; at least for now.

Angela also got in on some of the playing. Ainsley enjoyed shaking the rings (they have various rattles and such in them). She got a real kick out of placing them on her feet, though, as she loves to play with her feet.

It also contains information about her mood each morning and afternoon, as well as activities she did. It brings smiles to our faces everyday to read this thing - to think of our little seven month old daughter actually, well, doing things!

Before we all moved to TN, Ainsley’s former daycare keeper had told Angela that Ainsley loved the bouncy play center there. Neither Angela nor myself are thrilled with the idea of surrounding our little one with some cheap plastic, likely made in China (not that we particularly have anything against the Chinese, just that country’s lax safety regulations). However, Ainsley has only grown to like her bouncy play center more and more.

In fact, I don’t think I could begin to describe in words just how crazy she gets when sitting in this thing. She’ll do this for about a half hour at a time:

Note: She doesn’t usually listen to Iggy Pop singing about bad behavior. I just added the song afterwards because it was the first punk song that came to mind that this made me think of.

“…ah, but baby. We all decided it would be best for the whole family to move to Tennessee, remember?”

Well, Ainsley wasn’t exactly included in the decision making process on this. She was a big factor in it, though, to be sure. Having her be closer to family is good for her, them, and us (Ainsley’s mommy and I, that is). It was a tough move - the toughest we’ve ever been through - but the hard parts are now all behind us. Ainsley was the perfect child throughout the whole thing: patient, calm, and cute as ever.

At some point, Karma will come around and she’ll no doubt have us pulling our hair out (I’m told that’s in approximately 18 months). Until then, though we don’t deserve such a perfect little baby, she’s been one. Even the care-takers at her Daycare routinely comment on how quiet she is!

Monday marked six-months for our little monkey (and the shots that come along with it). I’m sure her mom will have more to post about that soon. She’s a healthy and happy baby, and well, that just does wonders for us and makes all that painful moving well worth it.
